Biology Teacher

Arjaree Thirach was an outstanding student who won a Royal Thai Government Scholarship (ODOS) to study abroad from 2004 - 2011. She obtained her BSc in Life Sciences, majoring in Biochemistry, with distinction from Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen Univeristy in the Netherlands in 2009. She later went to Wageningen University and graduated with an MSc in Molecular Life Science. She participated in various research teams, such as physiological research with Radboud Nijmegen University and vaccine development research with Crucell N.V. company in the Netherlands. Before joining KVIS, Arjaree Thirach worked at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna (RMULT) in Chiangmai where she taught Microbiology, Biology, and Biochemistry. She also has experience in biotechnology and food innovation research. In 2012, she was involved in cancer research at the Department of Biological Science and Technology at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) in Taiwan. In 2016, she took a part in a constructionism training program and the STEM Ambassador Training Program in order to learn pedagogy, with a view to enhancing her students’ lifelong learning skills.

Siriporn Suntiworapong

Siriporn Suntiworapong obtained her BSc in Biotechnology from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang in 2012 and an MSc in Environmental Science from Kasetsart University in 2015.  While studying for her master’s degree in 2013, she started her career as a research assistant on a training project for Monitoring of Microclimate and Air Pollutants in Thailand. This also involved cooperation with Chulalongkorn University. In 2014, Siriporn Suntiworapong attended the 19th Congress of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology in Melbourne, Australia. Accepting the challenging opportunity to work at KVIS as a Biology and Environmental Science Laboratory Technician in 2015, she has since received numerous great teaching experiences. She also had opportunities provided by KVIS to broaden her perspectives. One of these is participation at the 2016 Asia-Pacific Forum for Science Talent “Problem Solving of Future Scientists” at the National Taiwan Normal University.

Sakol Warintaraporn received his BSc in Chemistry with first-class Honors from Mahidol University in 2011. He continued his studies, pursuing an MSc in Organic Chemistry from Mahidol University, where he also worked as a teaching assistant in the organic chemistry laboratory. Throughout his studies, he has received a number of scholarships; these include the “Sri-trangthong” from Mahidol University from 2007-2011, the scholarship from the Institutional Strengthening Program in 2011, the scholarship from the National Research University (NRU) on the Development of Pharmaceuticals from Bioresources and Its Management, Mahidol University in 2011-2013, and a scholarship from the Center of Excellence for Innovation in Chemistry, (PERCH-CIC) in 2011-2013. Sakol Warintaraporn graduated with an MSc in Organic Chemistry from Mahidol University in 2013. Additionally, he received the award for Best Academic Performance from the Professor Dr. Tab Nilanithi Foundation of Chulalongkorn University and the award for The Best Academic Performance for a student at BSc level from the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University during his bachelor’s studies in 2011. During his participation in Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Thailand in 2013, he also received The Best Innovative Research Award from the 39th Congress on Science and
Technology of Thailand. He joined KVIS as a member of the Chemistry teaching team in 2015.

Dr. Suranan Anantachaisilp earned her BSc in Chemistry with honors under the Distinction program from Mahidol University in 2009. She studied under the Cotutelle Doctoral Program, graduating with a PhD in Science from the University of Technology Sydney and also receiving a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Mahidol University in 2015. She has been name on the Chancellor’s List in recognition of exceptional scholarly achievement in PhD research at University of Technology Sydney as well as received Distinguished Thesis Awards at Mahidol University. During her PhD studies, she served as a teaching assistant in the Material Science & Engineering lab sessions at the University of Technology Sydney in 2012, and also in the Integrated Laboratory Techniques in Chemistry I at Mahidol University International College in 2014. Prior to joining KVIS as a chemistry and earth science teacher in 2015, she worked as a chemistry teacher in the Chemistry Summer Credit Recovery at Mahidol University International Demonstration School. Dr. Suranan Anantachaisilp holds several publications and earned many scholarships, including the Senior Project Grant from the Young Scientist and Technologist Programme, NSTDA. She also received The Royal Golden Jubilee scholarship, as well as a scholarship from the Australian Research Council for her PhD at Sydney. During her bachelor’s degree, she earned a four-year scholarship from the Science Achievement Scholarship of Thailand. Additionally, she received the Outstanding Oral Presentation Awards in Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference in 2009 as well as the Outstanding Poster Presentation Awards at the 4th Congress on Science and Technology for Youth in the same year. In 2015, she received the Outstanding Oral Presentation Award in RGJ-Ph.D. Congress XVI. Dr. Suranan Anantachaisilp also presented her research in many international conferences such as 2014 MRS Fall Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, USA and 2015 E-MRS Fall Meeting in Warsaw, Poland. After joining the KVIS chemistry team as a chemistry and earth science teacher at the end of 2015, Dr. Suranan Anantachaisilp received an opportunity to undertake a professional development under teacher exchange program at the Department of Chemistry, Korea Science Academy of KAIST in Busan, South Korea in Spring semester 2017.

Myra Halpin, Ph.D.

Dr. Myra Halpin from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) came to work with the KVIS Chemistry Department in 2015. She also hosted the visit of two KVIS chemistry teachers who travelled to NCSSM to learn techniques in teaching chemistry in 2015 and 2016. Additionally, she supported two teams of KVIS students participating in the ‘Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge’ at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in 2016.

Ekaterina (Kate) Mendeleeva, Ph.D.

Dr. Ekaterina Mendeleeva, an Associate Professor from the Advanced Education and Science Center (AESC, Kolmogorov School) of Moscow State University, to be an advisor to the Chemistry Department from June 5 to July 3, 2016. During her stay at KVIS, Dr. Mendeleeva also presented a special lecture for KVIS students and staff members on the “History and Development of Chemical Elements of the Periodic Table from the Time of D. Mendeleev.”

Sophia Arwae, Ph.D.

Sophia Arwae has an expertise in teaching English. She received a government scholarship to study in a five-year-program at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University. She obtained her BEd in
Secondary Education with honors, majoring in English, from the Faculty of Education at Chulalongkorn University in 2008. During practice teaching, she was awarded the outstanding English student teacher award from her faculty for the 2008 academic year. She later obtained her MEd in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the International Program of the Faculty of Education at Chulalongkorn University with a 4.00 GPA in 2013 and her research was presented at the 34th Thailand TESOL International Conference in 2014. During her master’s studies, she served as a teaching assistant in the Teaching English as a Foreign Languages program at her faculty from 2011-2013 to help delivering lectures to undergraduate students from the faculty of Education and assisting in curriculum development and teaching. She had her previous experience as an English teacher and tutor in famous high schools and international schools. She is often invited to be a guest lecturer and tutor in many projects. Sophia Arwae started working at KVIS as an English teacher and as one of the pioneer teachers in June 2014. In 2015, she received valuable special training advancing her international knowledge and pedagogical techniques funded by the Rayong Science Academy (RASA) Foundation; she attended a 3-month educational training program at Fontys University of Applied Science Venlo Campus in the Netherlands. Furthermore, she was selected to be a representative for the KVIS English teacher exchange with Gyeongggi Science High School for the Gifted in South Korea in March 2016, broadening her horizons and developing her knowledge of teaching gifted students. In addition, she has recently presented her active research about materials development for high-ability students at the 63rd TEFLIN International Conference at Surabaya, Indonesia, in September 2016.

Jane Kanjanaphoomin, Ph.D.

Malaysian-born Jane Kanjanaphoomin obtained her bachelor’s degree in Business Studies (B.B.S), majoring in Finance from Massey University, New Zealand. Upon graduation in 1990, she was employed as a Financial Analyst at Hewlett-Packard Singapore. Jane has extensive experience in the private sector; in the fields of media, banking, and business development, where she has held positions as Editor-in-Chief to Vice President of the Chairman’s Office, Nation Multimedia Group. In 2004, Jane found her vocation in teaching, graduating with a Master’s of Arts in English Language Teaching (MA-ELT), Distinction Award from Assumption University, Thailand. She was the school’s first recipient to be proudly awarded for academic excellence. In 2011, she obtained her Ph.D., completing her Doctor in Philosophy from the Graduate School of Education, Assumption University. Her overall GPA of 4.00 saw her once again honored with a Distinction, and her Ph.D. dissertation was on “Teacher Leadership Framework for Gifted Education in Thailand”. 
Jane joined KVIS in May 2017. Prior to that, Jane was a specialist teacher of English at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School (MWITS), having taught at the country’s national gifted school of mathematics and science for over seven years. Known for her dedication, high commitment and positive personalities, Jane also received the “Best Teacher Award in 2011” in recognition of her exemplary teaching methods, contributions to professional learning community and professional development. Her expertise lies in teaching critical and creative thinking skills, English for Specific Purposes, IELTS and TOEFL-ibt. She also has more than six years of experience advising students on college and scholarship essays to well-known international universities, and held interview simulations for both local and overseas universities.  In community outreach programs, she has served as a trainer for English teachers for “Train the Trainers” projects for the 12 Princess Chulabhorn Regional Colleges in Thailand, and recently in 2017, for the “Pracharaj Schools”. 
Jane is also an avid reader and an active sportsperson.

Patuma Choeichaiyapoom has a vast background in languages and intercultural communication. She travelled to New Zealand on a 3-week exchange program, and the USA for a full-year exchange program at Guilford High School in Illinois, where she obtained a diploma with Magna Cum Laude, before studying at Thammasat University in Thailand. Here she received her BA in English with honors in 2009. She volunteered for exchange programs and acted as an exchange group chaperone for students visiting Yale College in the UK and Blue Mountain College in New Zealand.  She furthered her studies taking a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Chulalongkorn University in 2011, with special interest in activity-based instruction and intercultural communication. Her research was presented at 34th Thailand TESOL International Conference in 2014. She worked as a teaching assistant for the Curriculum Improvement Project at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, a facilitator in seminars and camps for various organizations and as a guest lecturer at the Department of Recreation,Faculty of Physical Education, Srinakharinwirot University. As a KVIS pioneer teacher, Patuma Choeichaiyapoom was sent under the Rayong Science Academy (RASA) Foundation Project for 3 month of professional development at  Macleans College in New Zealand. She currently works as an English teacher and a course coordinator of foreign languages at KVIS. She is passionate in nurturing the students to be well-rounded not only through science and languages but also Thai dancing and badminton clubs. She has been selected for a 3-month Chinese language program in 2017 through the Huayu Scholarship by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.

Gidja Tanomsingha, Ph.D.

Health and Physical Education Teacher

Dr. Gidja Tanomsingha graduated with a BSc in Sports Science and Technology in 2009, and an MSc in Health Promotion Science in 2011, before graduating with a PhD in Physical and Health Education from Chulalongkorn University in 2015. While studying for his master’s and doctorate degrees, he worked as a professional trainer at AIA head office fitness center and also at Bangkok Commercial Asset Management (BAM), training his students to be healthy and happy. During the same period, every month between July 2011 and March 2015, he also worked as a lecturer for the class “Good shape with Thai boxing” as part of the Chulalongkorn University Values Integration Program (CU-VIP). He worked as an athletics coach for The Thai Red Cross Society while he was studying for his bachelor’s degree until December 2015. Moreover, he taught the popular rhythm class, from the beginners’ level up to Social Dance in the faculty of Sports Science at Chulalongkorn University in July 2008 to April 2015. In addition, he was also a boxing coach assistant for the Boxing Club of Chulalongkorn University in the Thailand University Games 43rd “Kankrao Games” in January 2015.

Wasanont Pongsawat

Wasanont Pongsawat is very involved in the mathematics community. He obtained his BSc in mathematics with first-class Honors from Chulalongkorn University in 2012 and an MSc in mathematics also from Chulalongkorn University in 2014. He was selected as a student in Thailand’s International Mathematics Olympiad Selection Camp in 2006-2007. While studying for his master’s degree, he had many
opportunities to lecture students from various high schools preparing them for the Mathematics Olympiad. Since taking an opportunity to work at KVIS as a mathematics and computer science teacher in May 2015, Wasanont Pongsawat has received numerous great teaching experiences and also broadened his perspectives through opportunities provided by KVIS. He participated in a professional development program with one of our partner schools, the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in the US before KVIS was officially opened. Not only does he enjoy teaching his classes, but also tutoring to KVIS students in Algebra for the Mathematics Olympiad Camp. Wasanont Pongsawat played an important role in enabling the five KVIS students to receive 4 silver and 1 bronze medals in the 13th Thailand Mathematics Olympiad (TMO) in 2016. He is also the Vice-Leader of the Mathematics Olympiad regional center in the eastern part of Thailand at Burapha University, Chonburi Province.

Artur Jaroslaw Gorka, Ph.D.

Dr. Artur Gorka, an associate professor of Mathematics from Erskine College in USA, visited KVIS on a sabbatical leave and taught mathematics to KVIS students for an academic year from May 2015 to August 2016. Dr. Artur is an american with Polish origin, obtained his MSc from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland and later a PhD from Clemson University in USA. Dr. Artur Gorka speaks fluent Polish, English and Russian. He was learning Thai and has been making a good progress. He impressed most of the people who work with him for his love of his teaching of Mathematics and the love for his mother. It was a common sight to see Dr. Artur Gorka video conferencing with his mother in Poland after his teaching periods at KVIS. Being a judo black belt, he successfully led a Judo club at KVIS. One of his noteworthy contributions to mathematical research at KVIS was to advise students on a research project titled “Fractals in Thai Culture”.

Atiratch Laoharenoo

Atiratch Laoharenoo obtained his BSc in Mathematics with honors in 2013 and MSc in Mathematics in 2015, both from Chulalongkorn University. While studying for his master’s degree, he received the scholarship of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 72nd birthday. Atiratch Laoharenoo was one of the recipient of the prestigious Professor Dr. Tab Nilanidti Foundation prize for his highest GPA achievement at Chulalongkorn University. Before starting his career as a Mathematics and Computer Science Teacher at KVIS, Atiratch Laoharenoo had an opportunity to present his senior project in the 2013 Science Forum at Chulalongkorn University. In 2015, he presented and published his thesis titled “Existence of Global Solution for Semilinear Psuedoparabolic Equation with Unbounded Coefficient” at the 20th Annual Meeting in Mathematics at Silpakorn University, Sanamchandra Palace campus. During his master’s studies, he also gained experience in research and teaching, as a teaching assistant for many classes in many mathematics topics such as Real Analysis and Calculus III. Besides teaching his regular classes, he also tutors KVIS students in algebra for the Mathematics Olympiad Camp.

Guntaphon TassanaSophon

Guntaphon Tassanasophon has an extensive background in mathematics. He graduated with a BSc in mathematics in 2013 and an MSc in mathematics in 2016, both from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science and Technology at Thammasat University. While he was studying for his master’s degree, he presented his research in various conferences. In 2015, he presented his research at The 11th IMT-GT International Conference on Mathematics, Statistics and Its Applications (ICMAS2015) in Pattaya when Thammasat University was a host. He later presented his work at the International Conference on Applied Statistics (ICAS2016) in Phuket. His paper was accepted for publication in The Thai Journal of Mathematics, in the special issue for the 11th IMT-GT International Conference on Mathematics, Statistics and Its Applications (ICMSA2015). He was proud to be chosen to join the Mathematics and Computer Science Team at Kamnoetvidya Science Academy in 2016.

Thanaporn Thanodomdech graduated with a BSc in mathematics with honors in 2013 and completed her MSc in mathematics in 2016, both atChulalongkorn University. While studying for her master’s degree, she received the scholarship from His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Her major fields of study are Probability Theory, Statistics and Stochastic Process, especially the Strong Law of Large Numbers. Along side her studies, she has participated in several academic activities; such as the 20th Annual Meeting in Mathematics at Silpakorn University in 2015, and the Thesis and Dissertation in Progress Seminar–MATH at Chulalongkorn University in 2015. Before joining the Mathematics and Computer Science team at Kamnoetvidya Science Academy in September 2016, she gained teaching experience as a mathematics instructor at the Science-Based Technology Vocational College in Chonburi Province.

Nareekarn Nakhamdee grew up in a family of fashion designers, hence she has been routinely surrounded by art and design for as long as she can remember. Her dream of being an artist began when she was very young. Since then, her dream has developed, becoming stronger and more focused, eventually choosing “Fine Arts” as a major for her bachelor’s degree at Chulalongkorn University in 2004. A year later, she was given her first opportunity to present her art work “Visual Arts for the Sake of Visual Arts” in a real art gallery, Charmchuree Art Exhibition Hall. She later presented several other works in this same gallery: “Day Dreaming” in 2007; “Proof” in 2008; and “Shackles: Materialism and Love” in 2015. In 2008 she was granted a “Young Thai Artist Award” in a program organized by Siam Cement Group (SCG) before graduating in the same year with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts, majoring in Sculpture. Nareekarn Nakhamdee extended her knowledge and experience by attending a
master’s program in Fine Art, specializing in sculpture, at Silpakorn University where she graduated in 2012. During 2008 – 2015, she created many art works and had several more opportunities to present her work in public, such as “Homecoming” at Chulalongkorn University, in 2011 and “Body and Identity” at Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) in 2012. Besides these national events, she also received an opportunity to present her work in an international art exhibition and conference, the 12thCO-CORE International Art & Design Critiques, 2013. After graduation, she looked for a challenging career opportunity and joined KVIS as an art teacher in January 2015. Now at KVIS, she is facing a new challenge in her life and her career; she is trying to discover how to induce science-mathematics students to love art.

Min Medhisuwakul, Ph.D.

Dr. Min Medhisuwakul graduated with a BSc in Physics from Chiang Mai University (CMU) and was accepted to work as a lecturer there in 1996. After receiving the Royal Golden Jubilee scholarship, he continued his studies at PhD level at Chiang Mai University. During his studies, he received the DAAD scholarship from the German government, allowing him to spend a year in Wuppertal, Germany,  working for his PhD and also learning German as his third language. After completing his PhD, he worked on developing a fuel cell test station and alternative materials for fuel cells using plasma techniques. He has also received research funding from several organizations. While working as a lecturer at CMU, Dr. Min Medhisuwakul gained experience in teaching students in all levels ranging from high school to PhD level. Having strong English communication skills, he was selected to be one of the teachers of the international program. He was a lecturer in the Physics Olympiad camp and was selected as the team leader for Chiang Mai University POSN center in the National Physics Olympiad competition. He was invited by the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) to take part in editing IPST Physics books for high school level. In addition to his outstanding academic performance, he is a well-rounded person. He is a talented musician who is able to play several musical instruments, including the guitar, piano and the drums. He was invited to sing four songs for his Bachelor students’ album and has made a few music videos. He likes sports and performs well in many of them. Dr. Min Medhisuwakul is a good role model for all students and staff members.

Dr. Adis Khetubol received his BSc in Physics with honours from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand in 2005. He later attended a master’s program in Material Physics and Nanotechnology at Linkoping University, Sweden under the support from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) in the L i nnaeus - Pa lme program. He subsequently received his MSc in physics in 2007 on the thesis work of polymerbased solar cells. After graduation, he moved to Jacobs University Bremen (formerly known as International University Bremen), Germany for a six-month internship at the Electronic Devices and Nanophotonics group, Department of Electrical Engineering. He worked on the project “Investigation of front contact resistance of flexible CIS solar cells”, funded by Soltronik, a solar cell manufacturer in Hamburg. From 2008 - 2012, Dr. Adis Khetubol joined the Marie Curie Initial training network named HERODOT (Heterogeneous Quantum rod and Quantum dot Nanomaterials) as an Early-stage researcher and a PhD student in the Molecular imaging and Photonics unit, Department of Chemistry, KU Leuven, Belgium. He later received his PhD in Chemistry in 2013 with a doctoral thesis titled “Triplet harvesting and charge transport in disordered organic layers doped with semiconductor nanoparticles.” After his graduation in 2014, he moved to the Department of Chemistry  and Bioengineering, Tampere University of Technology for postdoctoral research focusing on ultrafast optical spectroscopy for photophysical processes in water-splitting cells and complex conjugation molecules. He holds several publications, and has joined many training sessions, workshops and conferences at international level. He joined KVIS as a physics and astronomy teacher in January 2016.

Theparak V. Palma received a full scholarship to pursue the area of his interest in electronics computer technology at Saint John’s Polytechnic school in Bangkok while he was studying at Saengtham College in Nakhon Pathom Province. He later graduated with a BA Humanity majoring in Philosophy in 1997. Theparak V. Palma also received a diploma of Vocational Education in Industrial Technology after a further 2 years of study. Theparak V. Palma went to the USA in 2001, where he worked in various part-time jobs and also studied at the Cleveland Institute of Electronics (CIE) in California. He was granted a Diploma of Electronics Technology in 2004. During this time, he received valuable experience working as a communication system technician at Advanced Digital Communication from 2003 to 2005. Theparak V. Palma returned to Thailand in 2006 and set up his own business providing a microcontroller training program to both high school teachers and university students. Six years later, he was appointed as a teacher of Computer science and a project advisor of students’ science projects focusing on robotics, environment and energy at Chaophraya Wittayakom School. These projects received awards in many competitions. He also worked as a technical consultant on a project dealing with electric safety equipment among private sector representatives, and teachers at Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi. Theparak V. Palma joined KVIS in January 2015, working as both the physics laboratory technician as well as teaching a course on Basic Engineering, Design & Technology. He is also a co-advisor of KVIS students’ science projects involving robotics and microcontrollers. During the course of his teaching career, he has earned skills in creative teaching techniques that allow him to motivate students and enrich their learning.

Sarun Nounjeen

Sarun Nounjeen graduated from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology in 2006, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Science and Technical Education, specializing in Mechanical Engineering. While pursuing his bachelor’s degree, he received an achievement award for the Solidworks Design Contest. He later obtained his Master of Engineering in Quality Engineering from the King Mongkut University of Technology in 2008. After graduating, he worked as an engineer in private companies where he gained a lot of experience in practical works, improving processes and managing projects in the  production and maintenance departments. During this time, he also presented his project-papers and received some achievement awards for the Solidworks Simulation, Solidworks Animation and Solidcam 2.5D. Moreover, he also received a certificate of Internal Audit, ISO-TS 16949 and a certificate of Internal Environmental Audit, ISO14001. While working at the companies, Sarun Nounjeen was also assigned to train employees in basic engineering. He realized that giving knowledge and helping others to develop their competence was both fascinating and motivating to him. Sarun Nounjeen joined KVIS in February 2015 where he has been teaching Design and Technology, Basic Engineering and Computer for Design and Prototyping to high-ability KVIS students.

          Phakin Nimmannorrawong obtained his Bachelor Degree in Political Science (International Affairs) with first-class honored in 2012 and subsequently earned a Master Degree in History from Thammasat University, Thailand in 2015. While doing his Master’s research project, he received the Master Research Grants from Thailand Research Fund (TRF) to support his investigation. His thesis titled “The History of Children and Childhood during the Early Bangkok Period to the Chakri Reformation” won Thammasat University Excellent Dissertation Prize in 2015.

During his study, he worked as Assistant Project Coordinator for ASEAN Watch project, Thailand Research Fund where he had a great opportunity to develop his insights on Southeast Asia’s current affairs. Concurrently he gained teaching and research experiences through working as an assistant for many scholars including Asst.Prof. Xu Lanjun, Ph.D., National University of Singapore and Trin Aiyara, Ph.D. Candidate, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Japan.

In 2016, he also participated in Social Innovation & Youth Center research team, funded by Thai Health Promotion Foundation, to undertake the study on “Social Innovation for Health Driving through Children and Youth's Participation: A Case Study of Children and Youth Council Provincial Level”. Additionally he joined the editorial board of Thammasat Journal of History from 2015-2016.

Due to broad interests ranging from Western historiography,
history of childhood, International Relations, Thai politics,
philosophy of education, Marxism, to history of football, Phakin published articles, opinion pieces, and translations in books, journals, newspapers, and online sites such as Ritsumeikan Journal of Asia Pacific Studies, Journal of Liberal Arts, Thammasat Journal of History, Krungthep Turakij (Bangkok Business News), New Mandala and Goal Thailand. His current research lies in the philosophy of nature and critical thoughts of Donna Haraway, one of the prominent figures in the fields of science and technology and feminism.

Besides his academic interests, he engaged passionately in literature as his writings carried off Young Thai Artist Award in Literature from the SCG Foundation and Parn Waen Fah Literary Award in Poetry from the Parliament of Thailand in 2012 and 2013 successively.

In 2017, Phakin joined Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS) as Social Science and Social Studies instructor. He is responsible in teaching Thai history, World history, Civic Duty and other elective courses as well as overseeing student clubs such as Science Communication (KVISci) and Philosophy in Everyday Life.

Surakrai Nantaburom Ph.D.

Social Studies/Social Science Teacher

Surakrai Nantaburom obtained his bachelor’s degree with first class Honors in Education with majors in Social Studies and Computer Education at Secondary level from Chulalongkorn University in 2011. Concurrently, he also pursued a bachelor of law from Ramkhamhaeng University, Thailand. He continued studying in the education field, obtaining a master’s degree in Teaching Social Studies from Chulalongkorn University in 2014. Furthermore, he joined the educational training program at Fontys Initial Education and Didactic Qualification Professional Program from Fontys University of Applied Science Venlo Campus in the Netherlands from February to April 2015. He is currently studying for a PhD in education, focusing on curriculum and instruction at Chulalongkorn University. He worked as a research assistant in the Research and Development Center on Education for Sustainable Development (ESDI Center), at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University in May 2011 to April 2014. In the ESDI center, he participated in many interesting projects such as research on the Strategic Plan for Youth and Children in Local Government in Thailand. This project was funded by UNICEF Thailand. He also assisted in research on the “National Environmental Strategic Plan for Children and Youth” project which was funded by the Department of Environmental Equality Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Thailand. In addition, Surakrai Nantaburom also worked for the Institute of Thai Studies at Chulalongkorn University from November 2013 to May 2014 as a project coordinator for the “Empowering for International Thai and ASEAN Studies” (ENITAS) Scholarship project, which established an international symposium and scholarships to scholars from around the world. He joined KVIS in 2014. In May 2016, he was appointed as a committee member of the Academic Affairs and Administration of the Social Studies Teachers’ Association of Thailand.

Weeraorn Imjai

Thai Language Teacher

Weeraorn Imjai has an educational background in Thai language and journalism. She graduated from her BSc in Thai language, with honors from the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Thammasart University (TU) in 2009 and later a master’s degree in 2013. While working on her dissertation, she gained teaching experience as a special instructor of Thai usage for students in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of Public-Health. Promotion of reading, for developing reading skills and reading habits for teachers and students in elementary and high school level was also a major activity of her work at. She has also worked as a member of the editorial staff in Kor-Kon magazine at TV Burabha and as a tutor for Thai language. After graduation, Weeraorn Imjai became one of the group of pioneer teachers at KVIS during its earliest days. She had an opportunity to go abroad under a three-month professional development program for teachers at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). During this time, she gathered experiences, conducting research with the professors at UALR and joining educational conferences in the United States.
